Appliances or Art

When does a common object in your kitchen become art?

Over the past 10 years appliance brands from Italy, Canada, and the USA have been exploring the production of major appliances in bright colorful hues. Over the last two years, the popularity of these appliances has really blossomed.

Major design house Dolce & Gabbana collaborated with SMEG on their “Divina Cucina” line of exhaust hoods and gas ranges.

Mississippi-based Viking has twenty custom colors on offer for the 36″ Fully Integrated Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator (VBI7360W) that can be purchased hinged left or right. We are featuring a “Cypress Green” finish as green tones have been extremely popular this year for the cabinetry industry.

Bertazzoni an Italian appliance company has on offer ranges, cooktops, ventilation, refrigeration, and dishwashers. Their custom color gas and electric ranges come in sizes from 30″ wide to 48″ wide and have optional griddles, simmer rings, porcelain, and glass trays and are available in six punchy colors.

The co-founders of Big Chill started out with an idea in 2003 for a vintage 50s looking refrigerator with modern convenience for a beach house renovation. They could not find anything on the market that fit the bill so they designed and built a prototype on their Boulder, Colorado front porch. Now they produce refrigerators, ovens, microwaves, and more in three different collections. The “Retro” collection gives us major retro vibes with nostalgic colors like “Buttercup Yellow” and “Beach Blue,” the chrome trim and pivoting handle. The “Pro” collection has sleek lines and clean edges and comes in ten crisp modern tones. Last but certainly not least the “Classic” collection reminds us of old-world European style kitchen appliances with brushed brass trim and stylized turn-of-the-century knobs and handles.

We are excited to add more colorful appliances to our upcoming projects. Keep an eye on our Facebook and Instagram for photos to come.
