As my title suggests, possibly more subtly than I would like is that a bathroom at times needs a bit more pretty than the utilitarian washrooms of the past. Furniture style vanities are hardly just for powder rooms anymore. Designing a bathroom that looks more like furniture than a typical bathroom vanity. Have fun with legs or feet attached to the bottom of the vanity or bold geometric tile patterns.

Pool baths or powder rooms can be enhanced by the style of stand-alone furniture. The bathroom shown below has a separate vanity and linen closet. The vanity is a light painted wood with a glaze, featuring a curved marble backsplash, while the linen cabinet is a distressed driftwood finish with louvered doors. Small details like the shelf to store towels and tapered legs on the linen cabinet really add to the bathrooms overall appeal.

Modern bathrooms are beginning to take on furniture looks as well, like the design in this next bathroom. The sink cabinets are a bright white finish with a veneered finish apron and shelf, while the drawer and door cabinets match the gray veneered finish and are floating between the sink cabinets.

Clean and classic elements bring this farmhouse style vanity together. The toe kick valance, mirror frame, and sconces combine with the inset style cabinetry to create a traditional, but contemporary bathroom vanity.
